Frontier Works Organization (FWO) – Overview

The Frontier Works Organization (FWO) is one of Pakistan’s leading construction and engineering organizations, operating under the administrative control of the Pakistan Army. Established in 1966, FWO was initially created for the construction of the Karakoram Highway (KKH), a project that connected Pakistan with China through one of the most difficult mountain terrains in the world.

Role & Functions

FWO has since evolved into a multidisciplinary engineering and construction powerhouse, undertaking a wide range of national and international projects. Its areas of expertise include:

Roads & Highways Construction – including motorways, expressways, and bridges.

Tunnels & Dams – large-scale hydropower and water management projects.

Airfields & Railways – modern transport infrastructure development.
