The Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works Limited (KSEW) is Pakistan’s oldest and premier shipbuilding, repair, and heavy engineering organization, located at the West Wharf in Karachi. It operates under the administrative control of the Ministry of Defence Production (MoDP), Government of Pakistan. Established in the 1950s, KSEW plays a key role in strengthening Pakistan’s maritime and defense capabilities.
Role & Functions
KSEW undertakes a wide range of projects for the Pakistan Navy, Pakistan Maritime Security Agency, Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC), and various private and international clients. Its core services include:
Shipbuilding – construction of naval warships, frigates, submarines, tugs, cargo vessels, and ferries.
Ship Repair & Maintenance – overhaul, retrofitting, and modernization of naval and commercial vessels.
Heavy Engineering – production of industrial equipment, pressure vessels, cranes, and defense-related machinery.
General Fabrication – steel structures, marine platforms, and civil engineering works.
